Professional Background

Mr. Smith provides effective counsel and sound strategy to clients involved in legal disputes. Mr. Smith’s practice focuses primarily on complex business, shareholder, trust and estate, and fiduciary litigation. He has over 25 years of trial and arbitration experience in both state and federal court.  Mr. Smith has successfully litigated and tried numerous cases on a wide variety of matters, including breach of contract, unfair business practices, consumer complaints, merger and acquisition, intellectual property, trade secrets, business torts, defamation and business disparagement, fraud, professional negligence, products liability, property disputes, shareholder actions, securities actions, partnership disputes, trust and estate litigation, and serious personal injury. Mr. Smith’s clients include Fortune 500 companies, local businesses, and individuals.

Because every client is unique, Mr. Smith’s representation focuses on the specific goals and needs of the client to develop an effective litigation, discovery, settlement and trial strategy to accomplish those goals.

Mr. Smith joined Simons Hall Johnston in 2021.  Prior to that, Mr. Smith was a partner at Holland & Hart, LLP in Reno, where he was partners with Anthony Hall and Brad Johnston, two of the three founding members of Simons Hall Johnston.  Before that, Mr. Smith practiced at a prominent litigation firm in Seattle.

Mr. Smith graduated from The George Washington University Law School in 1996 and the University of Washington in 1992, with degrees in Philosophy and Anthropology.  

Mr. Smith has been recognized in Nevada Business Magazine as one of Nevada’s “Legal Elite.”
